Team Member Bios

Clayton:

Hi, my name is Clayton and I'm 13 years old. When I'm not doing robotics I like to play video games, banjo, guitar and soccer. I also enjoy hunting, spending time with my sisters, watching soccer and baseball, and going to fairs and festivals.

I have been doing VEX-IQ for the past two years. For the 2013 Add It Up game, I won Excellence Award at States, which qualified my team to go to Worlds in Anaheim, CA. We finished in sixth place at Worlds!

Last year my sister and I did VEX-IQ Highrise. God gave us great success last year. We won first place at States as well as the Excellence, Teamwork, Programming and Robot Skills Awards. At Worlds we came in eighth place in teamwork, and thirteenth place in Programming and Robot skills.

Wow! Boy am I excited to play Bank Shot this year! I also got a new team member, Johnny. I look forward to a great year learning and having fun!

And I say to all VEX-IQ teams:

"May The Force Be With You"

Jesse:

Hi, my name is Jesse. This is my first year in robotics. I mainly started robotics because Clayton talked about it at our homeschool co-op and I thought it sounded really fun. I had my first competition at Knight's IQ Qualifier where we won Programming and Excellence. I am getting the hang of driving the robot in practice.

When I'm not doing robotics, I like playing Minecraft with my friends, building with legos and listening to music. My favorite holiday is Star Wars Day (May 4th).

I am really excited to possibly go to Worlds in Louisville, Kentucky. Hopefully we win!

May the force be with you!

Margaret:

Hello, my name is Margaret Young, and I am one of the student coaches for the Rogue Squadron. I am 15 years old, and when I am not doing robotics, I enjoy playing the violin, piano and guitar. I make and sell soaps, and work in my neighbor's barn and groom horses for a few extra dollars. I also enjoy falconry, which involves trapping, training and hunting with a hawk, falcon or other bird of prey.

I started robotics last year in the VEX IQ Highrise. It was extremely fun, and my brother and I did very well together as a team. We worked hard together building, driving, and had many late nights together trying to get a perfect program. Our work paid off. We did well at all the competitons we went to. Our wounderful coach (Dad), helped us keep cool and troubleshoot and fix problems that arose during the competitons, and even the problems at home.

I look forward to working with the boys this year in a new role, as a mentor coach.
